History of Jyotisar

Jyotisar is the main attraction of kurukshetra city. Jyotisar is known as the battle of Mahabharata according to Hindu heritage Arjun, bound by love, refused to battle with his relatives. Therefore, Lord Krishna gave the sermon of ‘Bhagavad Geeta’ to Arjun on the holy land of Kurukshetra and told him his right to do the Karam.

Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta is a colossal scripture of 700 verses.

Jyoti” means the light or enlightenment, and “Sar” means the core. Hence ”Jyotisar ”means “core meaning of light” or “ultimately of God”. Jyotisar in kurukshetra is where Lord Krishna spoke the Bhagavad Geeta to Arjun. Bhagavad Geeta was said to be spoken under a banyan tree known as the Akshaya Vata. Therefore, Lord Krishna chose this place to favor dharmic members in the struggle.

In 1850, Kashmir’s king Gulab Singh came to pay obeisance at Geeta Updesh Sthali impressed by the spiritual aura of this place and he built a majestic Shiva temple. The King of Darbhanga elevated a stone platform around the holy banyan tree in 1924, which according to devotees is the evidence of the song divine Gita.

In 1967, Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham built Geeta updesh Rath (chariot) at this place which seated lord Krishna & Arjun. As former is helping to move from Darkness of ignorance to the light of wisdom near Shri Shankracharya ji temple also built by shri kanchi kamakoti peetham.
